Build and Installation of Linux Servers

Software- FREE. Cost is in the hardware, installation and configuration, starting from about £600.00 +vat for a PC and simple fileserver configuration. We supply and build servers based on the open source Linux operating systems. Typically we use CentOS or Ubuntu 'flavours' of Linux.

File Sharing:

Linux servers can be used as file and print servers for offices. Share files between Windows workstations, Apple Mac workstations and Linux workstations on the Linux server.

There are no licences to be paid for Linux, so you can have as many workstations connected as the network and hardware will permit, at no extra cost ! Hardware requirements are not massive. Of course a purpose built server is preferred, but a reasonably specified PC with a good pair of hard disks can be used to power a server capable of keeping a small office happy with file and print services. Reliable Software Disk Mirroring keeps data more secure. Software mirroring does not depend on any hardware or specific manufacturer drivers, so in the event of a server failure one good disk can be put into another PC and the data will still be capable of being read.  

Web Server:

Linux has several web servers available, the most widely used and well known is the Apache Web Server which powers much of the internet. Apache works well with the PHP scripting language amongst others, so sites can be interactive and database powered, perhaps for e-commerce, shared web based calendars, email, etc.

Database SQL Servers.

Linux has several SQL database servers available, the most widely used are MySQL and Postgress.
